Summary: Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, and electrical systems in major producing unit or assigned area(s) by performing the following duties.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but not intended to be an all inclusive list. Other duties may be assigned.

* Performs electrical work necessary to maintain all operating and service equipment using standard and specialized tools and equipment.

* Understands and applies practical knowledge of AC and DC electrical principles, ladder logic, PLC and basic industrial electronics. Interprets and analyzes electrical blueprints, schematic and wiring diagrams. Lines up power distribution system to meet operating conditions and records meter readings.

* Participates in shift change activities including but not limited to communicating problems, issues, etc. with appropriate personnel, keeping supervisor apprised of such, completing appropriate documentation, logs, etc.; maintaining responsibility for operating area until properly relieved of duty by shift personnel or other authorized personnel.

* Receives and follows instructions on scheduled or emergency repair, installation and inspection work to be performed. Inspects equipment for loose, worn or defective parts; misalignment and improper lubrication. Makes repairs and adjustments for proper operation and maintenance of operating units, overhead cranes, conveyors, building and mobile equipment.

* Locates and diagnoses trouble and determines material and replacement parts/tools needs and most expedient method of making repairs. Notifies supervision of mechanical/electrical issues, impending delays to units and assistance or material needs for repairs. Notifies responsible parties for safety, environmental and production requirements.

* Repairs, replaces, installs, dismantles, assembles, adjusts, maintains and lubricates mechanical/electrical equipment. Including but not limited to, motors, generators, control panels, relays, interlocking control systems, circuit breakers, static switching units, electronic devices, lighting and distribution systems, communication systems, etc. Performs mechanical work pertaining to the repair, installation and maintenance of electrical equipment.

* Uses power tools, hand tools, test equipment, conduit bending, instrumentation testing and related equipment in making repairs and installations.

* Trains and coaches new employees in Standard Operating Procedures of assigned work tasks, Job Safety Analyses, safe work practices, and hazard recognition.

* Demonstrate and maintain behaviors that proactively support safe work practices while recognizing and communicating conditions of potential risk.

* Performs mechanical/electrical repairs and preventative maintenance as required in connection with their scope of work.

* Prepares and completes required reports and forms including but not limited to work orders, permit applications, maintenance logs, inspection sheets, shift logs. Informs other crew members of any unusual conditions and pending work

* Operates equipment in conformance with established standard operating procedures, with respect to safety, quality and environmental requirements.

* May work alone, with minimum supervision, and works with others.

* Coordinates and works in conjunction with Operators and Technicians in the performance of maintenance tasks.

* Responsible for initiating and maintaining housekeeping to meet or exceed established standards in job areas and in common areas of plant including but not limited to vehicles.

* Responsible for functioning as a team member to meet or exceed plant targets.

* Suggests changes in working conditions and in use of equipment to improve safety and increase efficiency of shop or work crew

* Performs other duties as assigned

  • Education/Experience: High School diploma or GED , Completion of technical school electrical program or apprenticeship; 2 to 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of Allen Bradley and GE PLCs, ability to understand ladder logic. Working knowledge of National Electric Code, proficient in troubleshooting 480 volt motors, 120 volt and 240 volt controls. Working knowledge of NFPA 70-E. Ability to read schematics and P&I drawings. Understanding of Lock Out/Tag Out procedures

 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places; uneven walking surfaces, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with noise level in some areas high. The employee must be able to wear job-related PPE.

 

Physical Demands:

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally move up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Color and Depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; bend; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk and/or hear. The employee is regularly required to climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
