Job Overview:

• The Tennessee Department of Health's Division of Family Health and Wellness (FHW) is seeking a highly motivated, qualified individual to fill a Public Health Educator 3 contract position. The Public Health Educator 3 position is housed within the Tobacco Use Prevention & Control Program. This contract position will work closely with program and evaluation staff to implement evidence-based strategies designed to address the tobacco use and prevention among youth and young adults.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and implement evidence-based programs/initiatives to address tobacco prevention among youth and young adults.
• Assist and support the expansion of TNSTRONG youth programs and provide technical assistance to those that promote the TNSTRONG initiatives.
• Works directly with the public to facilitate programs, provide community education, and disseminate health-related materials.
• Prepare and distribute program materials to internal and external stakeholders that conduct tobacco prevention programs.
• Work with tobacco team to plan and implement youth engagement trainings for tobacco prevention.
• Participate in regular trainings, workshops, conferences, and meetings related to tobacco prevention and control and the FHW division.
• Develop and maintain cooperative, collaborative, working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve program goals and objectives.
• Updates and uses relevant knowledge to support the implementation of health education interventions and programs for the community.
• Identifies the educational needs of others, supports program staff in the development of educational training programs or classes, and teaches and instructs others.
• Assists with the design and delivery of relevant training programs for health department employees, teachers, and other professionals.

Education and Experience:

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in health education, biology, or a related field.
• A minimum of 2 years' experience in public health, education, or related field
• Able to complete and prioritize tasks while working remotely.

Additional Information:

• This hybrid position has in-person attendance expected for the first day of employment for laptop deployment and onboarding in Nashville, TN.
• Contract for this position is expected to be renewed annually pending program funding. Funding is anticipated to continue at least through June 2029.
• Candidates must be a resident of TN.
• In-person attendance for quarterly meetings and professional development opportunities.
• Travel to Nashville office will not be reimbursed, however travel for site visits will be reimbursed by the state.
• Position is 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday (7.5 hours per day). One evening meeting (1 hour per month) with youth Ambassador, 3 youth events each year that require some weekend work.
