Kiewit Building Group - Preconstruction Engineer

We are adding a Preconstruction Engineer to our Kiewit Building group, to specialize in translating complex project visions, into executable plans - bridging design, estimating, project controls and strategic planning for our Vertical building market into seamless delivery. You will play a significant part in the success of our preconstruction process, helping us to optimize proposals, schedule and constructability. Excellent communication, attention to detail and an ability to work well in a team environment in areas of preconstruction are considered critical to this position. We are looking for individuals with motivation and eagerness to expand their skillset in vertical construction that have previous experience in construction functions like Field Engineering, Preconstruction, estimating and project engineering.

Location

This position will be based at our regional office in Springfield, VA, supporting projects in the Eastern region, primarily in the Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland areas. Some travel is required to project locations.

Responsibilities
  • Office Engineering:
  • Perform material takeoffs from drawings, specifications and other contract documents
  • Perform basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations
  • Assist Engineers to gather and prepare data for submittal or transmittal to the customer, vendors, subcontractors, governmental agencies, and internal use
  • Participate in the preparation of purchase orders and subcontracts, performing minor solicitations and purchasing as requested
  • Schedule maintenance and performing updates as directed by others
  • Assist in the maintenance of basic project recordkeeping and correspondence functions including daily reports, photographs, requests for information (RFIs), and memorandums
  • Enter data into the job cost system and participate in reviewing cost reports with jobsite management
  • Assist in generating change orders and as-built data to be reviewed by the Project Manager
  • Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations
  • Estimating:
  • Assist in reviewing and analyzing historical data relative to the project, incorporating various productions and costs appropriate in preparation of a bid
  • Complete a plan and specification review for an assigned project, assessing the risk areas and bringing them to the attention of the Senior Estimator
  • Complete material and quantity takeoffs according to bid documents
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a construction-related field of engineering or equivalent experience and education, required.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the construction field, preferably in the vertical construction markets with a strong understanding of preconstruction activities that includes: front end planning, the bid process, scope definition, budgeting, scheduling, estimating, constructability reviews and strategic construction execution.
  • Must have working knowledge and be able to direct the operations of at least these management systems: scheduling - CPM, unit man-hour performance, material control, estimating and subcontracts.
  • Experience with leadership and management of people, strong communication (verbal and written), planning and organizational skills, and comfortable dealing with stakeholders at various levels.
  • Must be US Citizen
  • Willing to travel to projects in the Eastern region, and work out of our office in Springfield Virginia.

Compensation and Benefits

Base Compensation: $95,000 - $110,000

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
